Steam burn from : Iron on leg of one year old presenting as peeling of the skin sounds more like a first degree burn. Usually they heal on their own within a week. You can give tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin for pain , apply cold compresses , aloe gels. See your pediatrician if increase pain , presence of blisters and redness , area is getting infected and the skin is painful to touch.

Full Thickness Burn: This describes a full thickness burn. Your toddler needs medical attention especially if the burn is to the face, fingers, over a joint. Small children move especially fast- it is important to keep hot items away from them. Perhaps having your child in playpen or crib may be safest while ironing.
