Yes but: There are several alternatives to using lindane, per the fda, to treat scabies and lice such as crotamiton cream & lotion, peremethrin cream & rinse, used for head and pubic lice, and Malathion lotion. These medications are recommended before patients are prescribed lindane. Is there a safer alternative to lindane? All scabicides are pesticides and must be used with caution.

What was the problem with kwell (lindane) that worried people about getting too much of it?

Neuro toxicity: Kwell (lindane) has a chemical in it that actually penetrates the scalp and works its way into the brain. A little bit is probably not harmful, but if the concentration is too high, especially cumulatively, it can be a neurotoxin.
