Cough: If viral, no real cure. Just symptom relief and time. If bacterial, then appropriate antibiotics may shorten duration of illness. Always include your doctor if symptoms are not improving in what you feel is an appropriate time frame or are worsening/concerning.

OTC meds: I would try choloseptic throat spray and cough syrup (such as Robitussin (guaifenesin) or nyquil). If no improvement, go see your regular doctor.

Depends on diagnosis: It depends on how long everything has been going on. There are numerous diagnosis for sore throat. Usually a pharyngitis is initially a viral infection and can turn into a bacterial infection. If you have been having this for a long time (months) maybe its allergies. You should be evaluated by a physician if it bothers you.
