Is it safe to get pregnant while taking mercaptopurine for ulcerative colitis?

Generally yes: Mercaptopurine or 6-mp (and related azathiprine, aza) are sometimes used in the treatment of ibd - they have been assigned to pregnancy category d by the fda, since early reports of receiving 6-mp in the first trimester appeared to have an increased incidence of abortions. However recent studies concluded that aza and 6-mp are safe and well tolerated during pregnancy. See your OB md for advice.
