History/exam/imaging: Typically this will consist of a basic history to determine your personal and familial background that may influence your breast health followed by a physical examination of the breast, axilla (armpits) and possibly the genitalia. Diagnostic imaging may then be ordered depending on the findings and screening criteria.

A 22-year-old female asked:
How can I do a breast exam on myself?

Self Exam of Breast: Yes. Absolutely. In fact a good medical provider will teach you how to do this necessary self care. I often instruct my female patients how often they should do this. It goes the same for men in their twenties, they need to self exam their testicles for testicular cancer and know when something changes.
