Food Myths: This scenario you are describing is way out of any medical norm that to answer it is nearly impossible. There is no medical rule about lettuce and specifically 'caesar's salad" when you are ill. Any such recommendations either way are myths and not true.

Are some people more likely to get the flu than others?

Dr. Ruben Nazario answered

Yes: The flu is spread from person to person through microscopic droplets expelled during coughing or sneezing, or if you inadvertently touch a surface or an object covered with those droplets. As such, people in close contact with a sick individual are more likely to get the flu. This includes babies and infants in daycare centers and older children in school, and t heir family members.

When fever is gone: You can usually return to work when your fever is gone and you are able to eat and drink and get your strength back. Recovery time may be longer for people with lung disease or diabetes.

A 21-year-old member asked:
Everyone gets the flu. It's not dangerous is it?

Dr. Kenneth Cheng answered

Define "flu": The everyday "common" flu is not dangerous. The influenza flu, which we can get vaccinated for, can be serious to the elderly, infants, and those who are immune compromised (i.e. Chemotherapy patients, etc.). It is estimated that there are approximately 30, 000 deaths per year due to the influenza flu.

Are we still on pandemic alert for any influenza strains, or that died off last year?

No: The world health organization website (www.Who.Org) is the best place to find information about pandemics. According to this, the h1n1 influenza pandemic is now in the post-pandemic period, but some outburst can be expected. Another place to find information about diseases epidemics and pandemic is the cdc website (wwwcdc.Gov). Please, check it before making any trip abroad.
