how much internal medicine knowledge is a pain mangement dr going to have?

Dr. Andrew Germanovich
12 years experience Pain Management
A good amount: To go into pain medicine your doctor went through one of four specialties. Neurology, physiatry, anesthesiology or psychiatry. All specialties have done about a year of internal medicine during an internship and have a decent grasp of internal medicine which is a foundation for all non-surgical specialties.

Dr. B is misinformed. Any well trained pain management specialist will have a working knowledge of internal medicine. Anesthesiology training encompasses this field of medicine. It is not just putting people to sleep.

And when I did my Anesthesia Interventional Pain fellowship, I meet some of the best Internal Medicine knowledgeable doctors ever. By force they needed to know what they were doing.
