My big toe hurts really bad, it's really swollen, tender to the touch it. is it a break or sprain or something less?

Gout?: If it hurts in big toe joint then it could be gout. Pain from gout is quite intense and skin temp increase and might have redness.. Other possible causes sprain, capsulitis, fracture, tendonitis etc. Get it checked and hope this helped.

Swelling: Toe swelling can be caused by many things. If there is drainage or pus, this may be either an ingrown nail or infection. However, it sounds like it's just swelling. Although gout (uric acid excess) can occur in the big toe joint, it's less likely in females unless you are past menopause. You should be fine, but if continues, see a podiatrist.
