The bacteria can survive to cause illness if susceptible foods are not cooked to a safe minimum internal temperature as measured with a food thermometer. Fruits and vegetables may also harbor the bacteria, if there is contact with raw meat, and are not washed thoroughly.

Followup is needed: Gestational sacs can vary somewhat in shape. However, if an experienced ultrasonographer thinks a sac is irregular, then a followup study is usually scheduled. At that time both the sac and fetus can be evaluated.
