A 45-year-old member asked:

Can my regular doctor do the fecal fat test in his clinic?

1 doctor answer4 doctors weighed in
Dr. Charles Cattano
Gastroenterology 39 years experience
Maybe...: Fecal fat testing can be performed qualitatively (to see if fat droplets are present) or quantitatively (to measure how much fat is lost in stool). The former is a simple slide test using a sudan stain on a random stool sample, whereas the latter needs a timed collection of stool for measurement. Both studies are somewhat specific, & outside the usual in-office tests primary care docs might run.
A 32-year-old member asked:

Can my regular doctor do the endoscopy in his clinic?

Dr. Frederick Shieh
Specializes in Gastroenterology
Depends on the doc: Most people have their endoscopies performed by gastroenterologists who are specially trained to perform these procedures. If it is a simple endoscopy and you are relatively healthy, these can be done in the clinic. More difficult cases are done in the hospital.

Can my regular doctor do the audiology test in his clinic?

Family Medicine 9 years experience
Depends: Many doctors have the training necessary to do this, but a lot of physicians don't have the equipment because there isn't enough need for it in their practice. I work with a lot of pediatricians, who send kids off for audiology tests often. However, they don't get enough need in their office to justify the expense of purchasing and maintaining the equipment. Best to call your doctor and ask.
Dr. James Ferguson
Pediatrics 46 years experience
Simple hearing screening is part of many checkups and is done with basic tools. The audiologist is my backup when a questionable finding is encountered. In my town the ENT group has a formal audiology testing center & others are available in town.

A 46-year-old member asked:

Can my regular doctor do the greenlight pvptm in his clinic?

1 doctor answer7 doctors weighed in
Dr. Matthew Thom
Urology 15 years experience
No: Greenlight photovaporization of the prostate is a surgical procedure performed on men with bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms due to enlarged prostate. It is performed in an operating room (procedure center, hospital, ambulatory surgery center) with anesthesia (general/spinal). There are procedures that can be performed in the office for bph, but greenlight is not one of them.
Dr. Robert Luntz
Urology 29 years experience
The Greenlight procedure requires great skill as every procedure has potential risks. An experienced urologist is the only type of physician who should perform this procedure.

When I looked for abortion clinic I found all these religious places that I think want to talk me out of it. Who should decide?

1 doctor answer6 doctors weighed in
Dr. Josephine Ruiz-healy
Pediatrics 39 years experience
You do: The options for you should be presented as such. Once you have the information, as an adult, you will have to decide the course you want to take. What ever you decide to do, make sure it is something you can live with the rest of your life.
Dr. Ed Friedlander
Pathology 44 years experience
This is very good advice. If the church folks you met (they posed as "abortion counselors") often to pay for the price of your delivery and help place your child for adoption, please consider this.
