Complex: Thetreatment is complex: tetanus inmunoglobulin, tetanus toxoid vaccine, benzodiazepines as muscle relaxants ( short acting preferred to valium), sometimes pts require intubation to protect the respiratory muscles.Antibiotics( Metronidazole now is preferred to penicillin), on occasions magnesium. The crisis may last several weeks.

Only for symptoms: Although there is no cure for the disease it is treated by removing the bacteria from the wound and then treating symptoms of the infection. With early supportive treatment about 10% of cases are fatal.
