Implant Follow Up: The is no specific 'check up' required for augmentation patients. Once you are released from the care of your surgeon, you shouldn't have to worry about follow-ups unless you have issues or develop problems. Your surgeon may have some schedule to follow but for the most part, none is needed unless you are having concerns.

Yearly exam: I routinely see my breast augmentation patients yearly. Silicone implants have the additional following fda recommendation: " if you have silicone gel-filled breast implants, the fda recommends that you receive MRI screening for silent rupture 3 years after receiving your implant and every 2 years after that.".

Annual-implant type?: We typically advise patients to return for a yearly exam but most find this burdensome. If over 35, you may want to consider breast examination guidelines as well in regards to mammography. The fda recommends breast MRI 3 years after implantation and every 2 years thereafter for silicone filled implants.

Yearly exam: With your family doctor or ob/gyn. If you have silicone gel filled implants, some type of imaging every three years (mri or ultrasound) is recommended. Saline implants do not have to have the imaging tests, unless there is another reason to get them - like a cyst in the breast, etc..

Breast exam: Most implants are placed behind the chest muscle (pectoralis major muscle). This means there is nothing but breast tissue between the skin and implant. You should perform self breast exams every month and get a yearly mammogram starting at age 40. Having an implant is of benefit because all of your breast tissue is at your fingertips.
