all the gymnasts have nice thick legs. i can't quite do gymnastics so what other workouts can i do in the gym to get them?

You need to work: The muscles of your legs and calves. Any trainer or perhaps int he gym they have a diagram of the muscles in the legs and shows you exercises to strengthen those muscles.
