Diet/exercise: Are the only safe and effective ways to lose weight and keep it off. It takes 3500 calories to gain or lose a pound. Dont' get your medical information from friends, tv or the internet. See a good registered dietitian.

Walking program: Start with a walking program at your own place. Start very slow. Walk for just few minutes, take break and then walk again. Slowly you'll build up exercise capacity to walk longer distance without getting tired.
Control calories in diet as well to get the most out the weight management program.
Please note, weight loss will improve arthritis pain as well.

Dr. Bennett Werner answered

No: It's not easy to lose weight. It's a full time job. It requires motivation, dedication, & self discipline. It can be done but it doesn't happen quickly or by accident. Consider joining weight watchers, tops, curves or buying one of the many excellent books available. Set a target date, take one day at a time, expect backsliding, stay focused, aim for lifelong healthy eating. B patient. Good luck!

Aerobic : Most exercises are safe. Avoid excercizes with risk if head impact. The key thing is to stop an excercize if you start to experience flashes and/or floaters. This is a symptom of vitreous traction on the retina and a possible retinal tear.
