Special Education: Dyslexia is defined as problems with reading comprehension. There are several different forms of this problems.Treatment consists of special education designed to teach the children different ways of approaching reading. But it does work.

Have a good team: Once a child is diagnosed, and is over 3 yrs, federal law states a individualized education program that is unique to each child be implemented via the public school system. The goal is to teach the child according to his strengths, and using a multidisciplinary approach. Reading can be taught using a multisensory approach like the slingerland method or project read. It is not an i.Q. Problem.

Dyslexia is the one: Learning disability in which function has been related to structure on functional mri's; different parts of the brain are activated on reading tasks in non-readers vs. Readers. Intensive (4hrs/day 5 days/wk.For 9 mos.) multimodal therapy like lindamood-bell not only improved reading, but changed the areas of the brain to those recruited by fluent readers. See dr. Shaywitz' "overcoming dyslexia".
Dr. Ashu Syal

Dyslexia: There is no cure but there are therapes provided by psychologists and school teachers to improve reading and writing skills. Overall prognosis very good.
Dr. Mary Esther Carlin

Remediation: Psychologist and educators have remediation programs available to help people with dyslexia learn how to manage that dysability.
