Assuming you mean sinus inflammation versus sinus infection, this may be very difficult to tell without seeing a physician. In general though if you have thick pus draining from your sinuses for more than a few days it is suspicious for a viral or bacterial sinus infection.

Pain, Pressure, ETC.: If you have an infection, you will likely have pressure and pain in the sinus region. This pain may radiate to your ear. Additionally, you may experience a dark foul smelling discharge from the back of your throat from your sinuses draining, you could also have a fever. See an ENT to rule out sinus allergies and to make sure you're given the proper antibiotic. Keep smiling.
