Mood disorders: Depression is a type of mood disorder. "mood disorder" is a descriptive term which includes depression and bipolar disorders -- with mania and hypomania. Depression, mania, or hypomania can occur in the same person in varying combinations and patterns, which allow the problem to be specifically diagnosed and treated.
