what are the causes of ovarian cancer and is it very treatable?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Melissa Moffitt
16 years experience Gynecologic Oncology
Unknown: We aren't sure exactly what the cause of ovarian cancer is yet. Most ovarian cancer is diagnosed at a late stage and is treatable with a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. Although treatable, advanced ovarian cancer is rarely curable.

Very true. Having ovarian cancer at any age is a reason to do BRCA testing as part of a genetic risk assessment program.

Yes, however BRCA 1&2 account for only 10-15% of ovarian cancer cases.
