Tooth grinding: See your dentist or primary doctor- you may be grinding your teeth at night. The grinding motion may cause jaw muscle soreness, or irritate the jaw joint itself. There are other more rare causes of jaw and facial pain, and your doctor can evaluate you for these conditions.

See DDS first: First see your dentist to rule out any dental etiology. If the results are negative, you may be referred to your MD for further evaluation. Good luck.

Need more info: Jaw pain can be from an infected tooth or a tooth under trauma from the bite. If you're jaw hurts in a specific location around the tooth a general practitioner should be able to solve the problem. If the pain is in the corner of the mandible or in the side of the face and head it might be related to malocclusion or bad bite. An orthodontist or a TMJ specialist can help as well as some general.

TMJ vs GCA: In your age group this is sometimes a worrisome sign known as jaw claudication and can bee seen with giant cell arteritis ( temporal arteritis) and polymyalgia rheumatica. Probably a good idea to see doc to eliminate the possibility.

TMD: Sounds like temporomandibular disorder. Go to see your dentist who can evaluate further on your problem- and possibilities of tmd. Treatment could be conservative vs corrective surgery. Go to see dentist and get yourself checked.
