Psychiatrist: The days of this type of physician is fast disappearing. This is directly due to the new healthcare "reform" of the current democrats. Therapy and treatment requires "face to face" encounters. I wish you luck. Healthcare in my opinion is going to go through a "dark phase" in the usa.

I agree that fewer psychiatrists providing psychotherapy these days is an unfortunate trend -- but it has nothing to do with the Affordable Care Act or Democrats. These changes began many years ago, long predating our current administration. Despite this, there are still psychiatrists who provide psychotherapy. Generally Medicare and other insurance providers prefer not to pay for it, though. The ACA will allow more people to receive care. Insurance companies try to limit this no matter what political party is in office. There are telepsychiatry practices in many areas, and something like this may be possible for this person.

Access to the office: Most psychiatrists' offices have accommodations for handicapped persons, and medicare provides van transportation to their offices in most states. If you are home bound, you can receive services at home through a home health service and visiting nurses. Online psychiatric services are not approved for all states yet, so you will need to use the resources available to you in your location.

Ask your dentist: Usually your dentist will refer you to the oral surgeon. If you want to go directly call your local dental society office to get the list of local oral surgeons from that you choose weather they accept medicare or not, most likely they will, if you explain your financial situation.

Medicare/medicaid: Medicare is a federal medical insurance for people over the age of 65 and people on disability, and people with end stage renal disease and is run by federal government. Medicaid is run by state governments and is funded in part by federal govt, it is medical insurance programme for low income families, it is managed by states, and hitorically pays much less for doctors and many doctors dont participa.

Can my mom rent a scooter on medicare?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Vance Harris
Family Medicine 37 years experience
Not covered: Medicare does not pay for scooter rental. There are some pretty stringent requirements for who qualifies for scooter. My experience is most people do not keep using them as they are not convenient. It wouldn't be a bad idea to rent one for a month or so and see if it is really something she will use. Talk to your doctor about getting authorization for scooter from medicare.
