I am not coughing blood and there is no change in voice ordifficulty in swallowing. but i have a clicking and popping in jaw/chin/throat area. could it be tmj or something else?

Check with ENT: If the clicking/popping sounds are only present with movement of the jaw (chewing, talking, etc), it could be due to TMJ dysfunction. However, if they are not related to movement (present at rest), it could be something else. There are some rare neurologic disorders that can present this way (e.g. Oculopalatal tremor). I suggest you start with an ENT evaluation.

Possibly TMD: The popping you are experiencing may be coming from a problem with the TMJ or associated structures. We call this tmd in the dental world - temporo mandibular disorder. It would be wise to have your dentist examine you to determine if it is from your joint area, or something else.

In joint, yes: If the noise is coming from the joint, right in front of your ear, then yes it is tmj. The disc that is supposed to be in between the bones is popping in and out of place. If it is coming from your throat or chin, then no, it is not.

TMJ vs ETD: If your clicking and popping are primarily from jaw movement, likely TMJ. If occurs more with swallowing, likely dysfunction of eustachian tube. See ENT for latter, TMJ expert for former. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referr
