My hdl is 58, ldl is 190, triglycerides 114, but i have a family history of heart disease. is it necessary for me to take a statin to lower ldl?

Statins and Disease: Without knowing your age or other medical conditions it would appear that you would be a very good candidate for a low dose statin. You do have a very good HDL and if you are young your doctor may want to wait a bit before starting you on cholesterol lowering medications.
