if i swim in polluted waters, what chemicals might my body absorb through the water?

Depends.: Generally don't absorb a lot of chemicals through the skin, but really depends upon the chemical and the concentration. The concern is usually infection of the skin and direct irritation or even ingestion of chemicals.
