Tips and Rx: Natural approaches to yeast infections: 1. Wear underwear that is cotton vice synthetic 2. Avoid wearing underpants when you go to bed at night. 3. Don’t wear tight fitting panties & pantyhose. 4. Use natural tampon/ feminine pads (avoid those which are scented). 5. Avoid douches as well as use of harsh, drying soap on genitalia. 6. Rinse genitalia very well after soaping up.

7. Try wearing pants that fit loosely, not ones that hug the crotch. 8. Change out of wet swim suits or dampened exercise clothes promptly. 9. Avoid hot tubs & hot soaking baths (opt for showers instead). 10. Always wipe anterior to posterior (urination or defecation). 11. Insure there is adequate lubrication for sexual intercourse. 12. Supplement with probiotics while on antibiotics & for at least 4 weeks afterwards. 13. Reduce junk sugar in your diet. 14. Consider eating yogurt with live cultures or Kefir. 15. Yogurt with live cultures can be placed in the vagina (some say it helps but there is not clear research to back claims currently). 16. Discuss use of Vitamin E with your physician (topical, oral or vaginal) 17. Discuss options like garlic or tea tree oil with your physician before trying. If you have consistent yeast infections or 4 or more infections per year – you should be evaluated by your doctor. If you are pregnant – don’t try any alternative treatments without discussing with your obstetrician. If you have diabetes, HIV or other causes of poor immunity – it is important that you discuss your yeast infections with your physician. If your yeast infection does not improve with over the counter medications or home remedies- it is time to see your physician.
