Yes, but: They can help you rule out endocrine causes, which aren't that common. After that you need a good regimen of education, diet, exercise and support -- plus changes of elements in your lifestyle that have led to weight gain.

Probably: Sounds like he is doing exactly what is recommended to manage high blood pressure with lifestyle modification. Yes, it is possible the meds need to be reduced in dose as his weight goes down and exercise increases. Good work!

Does hoodia really work for weight loss?
2 doctor answers • 5 doctors weighed in

Dr. Randy Baker answered
Holistic Medicine 40 years experience
No one knows 4 sure: There are no published research studies showing if hoodia works or not, though a couple of unpublished reports suggesting it might. Many hoodia supplements appear to have little if any hoodia, so if you try it find a reliable brand. See http://www.Webmd.Com/diet/features/hoodia-lots-of-hoopla-little-science

I couldn't agree more. Above all, never drink soda. Sugar sweetened beverages (sodas, energy drinks, juices, etc) are your enemy when you're trying to achieve or maintain a healthy weight.
