Maternal anxiety &: Depression have well-documented adverse effects on pregnancy & infant development. Citalopram is a class c medication; i.e., a psychiatrist, therapist & ob-gyn discuss benefits vs. Risks with each patient before conception. Also, stop all alcohol, tobacco, & drugs, take a daily folate (folic acid) supplement, get a flu vaccine & maintain a healthy weight. See: http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/m/pubmed/12189365/.

Google mass general women's psychiatry, the data is all there, risks almost negligible vs recurrence of mood.
