A 24-year-old female asked:

Positive tb skin test, took a blood test & tested negative for tb & hiv, had a child the year before the positive skin test & had blood drawn when i became pregnant and i didnt have anything . i did have strepb though. whyd i get a positive test ?

False positives: Almost every screening test we have will have false positives. Screening tests are usually cheaper & easier to do while confirmatory tests are more expensive & involved. Screening tests are usually less likely to be falsely negative, which allows us to identify populations that are clear while focusing spending on those more likely to be confirmed. Having the kid previously didn't matter.

Prior infection: A positive skin test for TB indicates prior exposure to TB, not necessarily an active infection. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
