Basics: Inhaling the fumes from kerosene/gasoline or similar petroleum derivatives can trigger a lung response that can lead to a fatal pneumonia. The direct contact with the hands does not. If used for such a purpose it should be done in a well ventilated place where exposure to fumes is limited and/or proper masks are worn to reduce exposure.
