HCG: My philosophy is that the best way to lose weight is not by dieting or a pill, but by changing your lifestyle to a healthier one. Make small changes. Eat the right portions, eat 3-5 small meals a day, cut back on carbs and sugars, increase lean protein/veggie/fruit/water intake, & start doing some cardiovascular exercise. I know it's tough with the kids, but this a better solution than hcg.

Starts with desire!: See your primary care doctor first to get a check-up. Then, follow the mediterranean diet, daily physical activity 300 minutes per week for life. Reduce alcohol intake to 1 glass of wine 3-4 times per week. Avoid unsaturated fats, eat lots of good fats, eat and drink well in moderation. Eat protein at all meals and do not skip meals!

Yes: There is no reason for a child to drink energy drinks. Sports drinks are unnecessary most of the time and typically have too much sugar.

Somewhat: Diet with modification of fat intake, coupled with exercise can help slow heart disease progression. To say it can prevent it is probably stretching things. However, there is no question that regular exercise coupled with good diet habits and a physician's guidance imo can clearly improve one's cardiac disease status. I believe considerable research exists to back up that statement.

Be very careful: Not recommended to ride bike with history of syncope. One accident could be disasterous. Check with the doctor that diagnosed the syncope.
