Possibilities: There is a sub-set of the population that always carries strep, but they do not respond to it with tonsil swelling/illness. Recurrent true strep disease suggests recurrent exposure/infection with a close donor source or inadequate eradication when treated. Tonsil removal can reduce the intensity of the disease but not eliminate all strep infections.
