A 18-year-old female asked:
how long is ovulation delayed after taking plan b ?

Hard to guess: When Plan B blocks an ovulation, one cannot accurately predict the next date that ovulation will occur, but cycles should normalize after another monthly cycle. The simple act of taking Plan B is an enormously loud voice saying: use reliable primary (not back-up) contraception. Fortunately, that is easy to do in most cases, and can eliminate any future need for Plan B.

Disrupts not restart: Plan b essentially disrupts the normal menstrual cycle by blocking or delaying ovulation. Irregular bleeding after taking Plan B is not rare. Always check a pregnancy test after using Plan B and see a doctor to start a better form of birth control.

If i spot after taking Plan B is it because its delaying my ovulation?

Plan B: Plan b is used for unprotected sex with contraceptive failure. It works w female hormones. Plan b can prevent ovary from releasing an egg, thickens cervical mucus which makes it harder for the sperm to reach egg & thins the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation. Emergency contraception symptoms can include spotting or bleeding, changes in menstrual flow or your period may be late or early.
