No: The vaccine is made the with capsule ( polysaccharide) that
surrounds
the bacteria, no live bacteria is injected into the body, thus you can not give someone meningitis because you are vaccinated for menigitis.

No and Yes: The vaccination your referring to is the Meningococcal vaccine which protects you against bacterial meningitis. This vaccine will only prophylaxis against bacterial and not viral meningitis. You can get viral meningitis and any point and many different viruses can cause the symptoms.

Until quite recently the meningococcal vaccine only covered types A & C. Type B was not included and rarely Type Y can produce meningitis. Pneumococcal meningitis still occurs despite the vaccine, and rarely there are other bacterial pathogens producing meningitis, like Listeria, Hemophilus, and so on.

A 23-year-old female asked:
Is it safe to take meningitis booster vaccine ??

Dr. James Ferguson answered

SAFE WITH EXCEPTIONS: Vaccines go through years of testing before their release for use. As long as you are not allergic to the components of the vaccine, there should be no reaction to it.Since you question the booster, if you had it before without an allergic reaction then the booster will be safe for you.
