Not candida?: Candida can cause toenail fungal infections, but other fungi usually are responsible. Neither canidida nor other fungi spread up the leg, although an inflamed toe can be the entry point for bacteri like staph or strep causing cellulitis starting at the toe and extending up the leg. "Candida overgrowth" in the intestine or elsewhere, and "systemic candidiasis" are urban myths. See a doctor soon.
