My 10-month old daughter is recovering from a viral infection. she saw a doctor and received some medication. for the last week, she has had diarrhoea, her poo is now consistently watery and almost white. baby seems fine and healthy.

It happens: There are dozens of gut viruses that trigger this pattern.I expect to see it 2-3X/yr to the age 5 y when it happens less. Some medications also have this as a side effect. I find applesauce & fresh bananas will help firm their poop over several days. Avoid juices that aggravate loose poop during diarrhea.

Hydration: Continue to nurse, keep her well hydrated. A probiotic such as yogurt may be added to reduce symptoms. Viral stomach flu illnesses may have a duration of 1-2 weeks. If there is blood or mucus in the stool, a culture may be sent by your pediatrician. Avoid milk based products which are more difficult to digest during the illnsess.
