A 34-year-old female asked:

my son has been seen by two pediatrics and endocrinologist for early puberty the endocrinologist did aan exam and xray no hormone testing. said she saw no signs of early puberty but i just read they look at penile size difference?

? penis size ?: Penis size varies from birth within a broad range. One of the first signs of male puberty on exam is increased testis size, not just length/girth. The 1st worthwhile screening tool for puberty is a bone age x-ray of a wrist/hand. If the bone age is not accelerated, it means no pubertal hormonal effects are present & blood tests unnecessary.

A 45-year-old member asked:

Can women go on birth control even though their mother has had breast cancer?

Yes: Bcp use is not associated with any significant incidence of breast cancer regardless of risk factors, however, certain breast cancers can grow in response to estrogen use. It is advised to begin cancer screening 10 years before your mother was first diagnosed with breast cancer. This should include yearly physician exam and mammography, ultrasound, and/or mri, depending on age and risk factors.

19 yo cousin takes these: naproxen, levothyroxine, gabapentin, propanolol, & allegra (fexofenadine). She is considering taking st. John's wart as well. Is this safe?

Appears safe: Thre are some relative interactions of two of the drugs already being taken. Naproxen may increase the blood levels of gabapentin. Some caution advised with the use of Naproxen with Propranolol (may decrease the effectiveness of propranolol) but no known probem of st. Johns wort with any of the medications. As wilth all medicatons check first with your pcp, specialist physician or pharmacist.

Notify Pediatrician: May try nasal saline solution to clean the nasal passages and make him/ her breath humidified air. Avoid aspirin. Notify the pediatrician office so he/ she be examined. If bleeding is too much take him to the emergency room.

Get help: First, you should have a thorough exam, history and lab work (maybe also an ultrasound) to find out why. Recurrent miscarriage can be genetic, hormonal, autoimmune or infectious. We can figure out how to help until we know what to help. If everything is negative, ask to talk to a reproductive specialist.

Misalignment: Many misalignments are biomechanical (how your body lines up and works - or doesn't) and may not show up on imaging. They can be caused by old injuries, compensations to injuries or sugeries, deconditioning or by life. Now that you know it's not something scary, find a good do who does manipulation (biodo.Com, aao.Com, cranialacademy.Com). Once alignment is better, consider adding phys therapy.
