Itch/scratch cycle: This is a cycle of behavior often triggered by an unrelated event. The kid scratches an area & tears some tissue which becomes itchy as it tries to heal. The kid then scratches/tears it again. Keep the area clean & apply abx ointment. Keeping mittens on the kid might help but "paying" the kid not to scratch (whatever reward you can think of) may be needed to break the habit.
