my 4 month old son was diagnosed by gp with gastro. he wasn't dehydrated so she prescribed purbac antibiotics and rehydrate solution. he is a breastfed baby. is it normal for antibiotics to make his diarrhoea worse?

Odd treatment: Most gastro at that age is triggered by a variety of viruses. The few that are from bacteria require culture to decide when or if antibiotics are useful. They are rarely necessary and can make diarrhea worse. The best basic treatment for gastro in a 4 mo is breastfeeding alone.
