Surgery: A dental filling is surgery. The diseased portion of an infected tooth is removed and replaced with an artificial material. The deeper the decay, the greater risk to the vitality of the tooth. There will always be a healing period after any surgery, but if your symptoms do not begin to diminish in 48 hours from the procedure, return to your Dentist for reevaluation.
