Fish oil: Current recommendations include regular exercise, smoking cessation, attainment of target body weight and a healthy diet, omega 3 fatty acids/fish oil . These behaviors have been associated with increases in HDL cholesterol

HDL: This is a bit harder to increase than it can be to lower the LDL. Exercise is very powerful in helping the HDL. Aim for 5-6 days of cardiovascular exercise for at least 30 minutes at a time at moderate to higher intensity.

2 recommendations: Jerusalem artichokes and dandelion root tea contain inulin. They help to increase good (HDL) cholesterol & to lower total cholesterol levels. Discuss with your physician.

See below: Choose the right parents, don't smoke, exercise, substitute olive oil for other fats, use resouvastatin, use fish oil, use niacin. The first 5 have been shown to lower the risk of heart attack and death. The last 2 have not or only weakly so.

HDL: To raise HDL aerobic exercise equivalent of 3mile daily walk or run is effective. A single daily glass of red wine can also help. There isn't much else that is effective and these generally wouldn't raise HDL by more than 10mg/dl if that much.
