Cancer, wart viruses: HPV causes cervical cancer, anus cancer, etc. Small genital warts have few symptoms, so many women don't even know they have them, unless the warts are on the outside and the women can see or feel them. Warts on the outside (vulva) can itch sometimes. Warts in the vagina and on the cervix shouldn't cause symptoms unless the warts are bigger or get irritated by sex.

A family of viruses: HPV is a family containing dozens of individual strains that trigger problems as diverse as the common skin or foot warts to cancerous changes in the cervix, penis, anus & throat. At least seven strains are known to be associated with genital cancer while 2-4 strains are associated with genital warts. The skin wart strain differs from the genital wart strains.
