A 37-year-old member asked:

If there is no cure for brain cancer, how long can someone survive with this type of cancer?

No consistent answer: Many variables determine survival time - type of cancer, where the cancer is, how small if was when diagnosed, available surgical, radiation and chemotherapy for the cancer type. Also, every patient is different (individual genetics) so the same basic cancer type can act differently in different people. Get great medical care, fight hard and love a lot. Good luck in your situation!

A 48-year-old member asked:

Can someone survive if they have brain cancer (GBM)?

Dr. Marilda Chung
Pathology 37 years experience
Very rare: If it is a GBM (glioblastoma multiforme) this a high grade malignant tumor of the brain with poor prognosis. Even with resection and chemo/radiation, these tumors recur and survival is generally less than a couple of years. There are rare subtypes of GBM that may have longer survival (giant cell variant) up to 5 years, but this is extremely rare. Make sure the diagnosis is correct.
