thick snot like mucous coming out of vagina when sitting on toilet. it varies in color from brown,black,pink, and red. mid cycle not pregnant. no odor or discomfort. what is causing this?

Could be: Mid cycle spotting which is common. Can also be a possible polyp or fibroid in the uterine cavity. If it persists, should get a saline ultrasound done to assess the uterus.

Watch and wait: What you described is a variation on the mid-cycle change in cervical mucus. If you do not have any other symptoms, you may watch and wait and discuss it with your doctor at the next opportunity. Do not try douching as that is likely to make matters worse. Have safe sex, get HPV vaccine.
