does a vitamin d deficiency have any role to play in peripheral neuropathy?

Not directly: Vitamin D is essential for bone health but all cells have receptors for vitamin D and it may have a more generalized role in health. While vitamin D deficiency is not directly related to neuropathy muscle and bone weakness due to deficiency may worsen symptoms of neuropathy.

Why is it necessary to give vitamin D supplements to my breastfed baby? Doesnt human milk have all the essential nutrients for babies?

Yes: Breastmilk is complete, as long as the mother has adequate nutritional stores. Vitamin d deficiency is very common, due to lack of sun exposure. If mom has adequate vitamin d levels from either sunshine or supplements, breastmilk should be complete. One study suggests that moms need to take at least 2000 iu of vitamin d daily to allow adequate levels in their breastmilk.

Rickets: I will presume that you are feeding your child a normal diet for age and that you are seeing your pediatrician or family practice physician on a regular basis. Rickets will be part of a constellation of signs and symptoms that will determined clinically. This type of nutritional deficiency is relatively rare in america at this time.

Actually, not so rate... And can be due to calcium or vitamin d deficiency. If your doctor suspects rickets a blood test and perhaps X-rays will be diagnostic.

If untreated, how much bodily nerve damage can thoracic outlet syndrome cause?

3 doctor answers6 doctors weighed in
Dr. Paul Cohen
Family Medicine 28 years experience
Significant: Thoracic outlet syndrome can be frustrating as the nerve compression can lead to weakness and/or muscle wasting into the arm/upper extremity. Fortunately, it can be treated with some simple manual medicine techniques(i know because i had the unfortunate circumstance to suffer from it)...So if you can find a reputable osteopath he/she can help you recover.
Dr. Mario Matos-Cruz
Thoracic Surgery 39 years experience
Sometimes after doing what Dr. Cohen advises, in some patients, the axillary artery or vein or both may become severely compressed, in this case vascular surgery intervention may be necessary as well as sometimes removal of a portion of the first rib.

Neuritis: Nerve pain or numbness or burning is a common symptom associated with entrapment of a peripheral nerve in the foot. It is not debilitating, but very annoying. See your local podiatrist, an injection may be necessary to block the nerve and re-assess the symptoms post-injection.
