Possibilities: It is possible that your daily routine distracts you enough that you can ignore it during the day. Gearing down for sleep brings out some of these issues. If it itches without any obvious skin changes it may be a sensitivity to soaps/lotions/etc. If there are even minor skin change it could be skin fungus.
