Difficult: There is an inflammation component to asthma that needs to be treated with medications. But if you have allergy induced asthma, you can get allergy shots to desensitize you and improve your asthma and allergies with minimal or no medications, consult an allergist and get tested.

Tough question: If your asthma is triggered by an allergy (animal dander, pollen, etc) removing as much of these as possible is a start. Removing rugs, carpeting, enclosing your mattress in an appropriate plastic cover is also a good start. If your asthma is exercise induced, take notice of the temperature outside when you exercise and have an attack. To be without a "resuce" inhaler is probably not a good idea

Interesting idea: There has been a tremendous advance in consumer friendly medication over the past 4 decades. These have reduced side effects, increased symptom free days, etc. However, in spite of these advances, sudden death due to asthma has persisted at similar rates through the years. If you really want to go this route, be aware that there are potential problems related to the idea.

How must I teach my teen self-control?

Dr. Cornelia Franz
Specializes in Pediatrics
Example: The best tool we have for teaching is modeling the behavior. If you have modeled it then your teen will see that. If you have modeled poor self control then he/she will model that as well. Understanding the teens point of view and offering other ways to react to situations. You may find that a counselor who does cognitive behavior therapy or dilaectical behavior therapy will also be very valuable.

Duh!!!: You don't need to know because it will not help you care for yourself. Only if you are writing a research paper. For chronic pain begin a self-care with a wellness program of vits, magnesium glycinate, sleep hygiene, exercise, self massage, chiropractor, yoga, heat, epsom tub soaking, stretching all are needed. In my practice I use acupuncture and myofascial tissue release.

18 and just diagnosed as asthma free. Taken off my meds. My breathing is bad but will it get better over time?

Depends: It may but asthma can reoccur even after being symptom free for along periods of time. Even though you may not need you medicines at present, i would keep your rescue meds available for any unexpected emergency.
