An "inexact science": Ultrasound scanning is an "inexact science" depending upon the experience of the reader of the scan and the medical history/circumstances. An ectopic pregnancy is considered when a period is absent. Ovarian cysts, if large or multiple, can be seen and clarified, but not if singular and small. If doubts exist, a hands on "look see" with the laparoscope is warranted.
