I used cold water instead of room temperature water. Could that be the reason I got a dry socket?

Yes: It is meant to fall out with time. If you are bleeding or having a problem, call the dentist or oral surgeon who performed or discuss with the doctor on call. Otherwise, observe and it should be okay. Do not hesitate to call or be seen. Socket to me!

No, but DENTISTS do: If by doctor you mean your primary care md, then no. We are familiar with, but do not typically manage dry (dental) sockets. There are doctors who do (ent, oral surgeons, plastic surgeons), and dry sockets are painful and not uncommon (~ 5%). You could try over the counter pain medicine, warm salt water swish, or perhaps clove oil to help with symptoms until you see a dentist.

You should consult with an oculoplastic surgeon if this is your problem as well as your ocularist who made the prosthetic eye.

The surgeon will remove food particles and pack the wound with a medicated dressing that may have to be changed every few days. He can rx pain meds.
