Dr. can check throat: Throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the cough or throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Cold and cough medications may not help much in young children.

TRY: HUMIDIFICATION! A cold vapor humidifier may help..irritation is often due to the DRYNESS of the air in heated living areas in the Winter Months! Hope this is helpful..(PS Not sure about your weather in South Africa however HEATED areas may also be very DRY! DR Z

A 21-year-old member asked:

My child has had strep. Throat before, and he has tics and/or ocd. Does that mean he has pandas?

Not enough: Panda's requires periodic flare-ups of tics/ocd associated with recent infection and elevated antistreptocccocal antibodies - aso and antidnase - that elevated when the symptoms flare. Your doctor is the only one who can diagnose panda's.
A 21-year-old member asked:

I have pain in my neck and have had many joint surgeries, is this common in eds?

Hard to tell: Neck pain and joint pain is just as common in eds as in many other non-eds causes. As far as joint surgeries go, I am not sure what kind of surgeries you had and for what reason. Definitely, eds patients have multiple joint problems (hypermobility, fractures, laxaty etc.) that makes them prone to trauma etc.

Yes: Although removing the tonsils may decrease the frequency of strep throat, it is still possible to become infected with strep without tonsils.

Multiple reasons: Could be something as simple as anxiety or something pathology in the area. Would recommend seeing an ENT specialist to evaluate it.
