ANA test result of 1:640 is not likely a false positive. In other words, it is significant enough to warrant additional evaluation. I would assume that your comment, "Rheumatologist says lupus tests clear" suggests he/she performed a battery of more specific tests and they were "negative". Neither Lupus not MS can be diagnosed exclusively by lab tests. Symptoms, signs, and exam are critical.
