What's the reason?: Why is your resin filling being replaced year by year? If there is redecay there can be more tooth structure removed- depending on the extent of the decay. Properly placed resin fillings like any fillings should, under normal circumstances, last more than a year.

Should be Minimal: First, you shouldn't need a resin filling replaced every year. It should last several years with today's materials. When one is replaced, removal of the entire filling is needed but removal of the tooth structure should be very minimal as long as there is no decay. You do want tooth structure removed if it is decayed obviously. If you need to replace every year, then you need to find out why.
